Can I renew a script online in Australia?
Yes. After a telehealth consultation, an AHPRA-registered Australian doctor can legally issue a renewed prescription or a repeat for many everyday medicines. At MyGPOnline the consultation is a flat $39, and where the doctor assesses the medicine as clinically appropriate your eScript token is sent by SMS or email — usually within minutes — and works at any Australian pharmacy. Doctors do not prescribe or renew drugs of dependence (Schedule 8 medicines) via telehealth.

How online script renewal works
- Book online — same-day appointments are usually available, 7 days a week. Have your medication name and dose handy (the box or your pharmacy record is enough).
- Talk to the doctor — a short phone or video consultation covering what you take, why, and how you’ve been going on it.
- Receive your eScript — if the doctor assesses renewal as clinically appropriate, the eScript token is sent to your phone or email, usually within minutes of the consultation ending.
Your renewed script arrives as an eScript token
Australia’s electronic prescription system replaces paper scripts with a secure digital token — a link with a QR code sent by SMS or email. Show the code at any pharmacy, local or online, and the pharmacist dispenses against it. If your renewed prescription includes repeats, a fresh token is issued automatically each time a supply is dispensed. Nothing to print, nothing to lose — and if you do lose the SMS, your pharmacist can help retrieve an active token.
What our doctors can — and can’t — renew online
Renewing a script online carries the same clinical and legal responsibilities as in a clinic, and our GPs apply the same standards:
- Commonly renewed: everyday medicines for stable, ongoing conditions — such as blood pressure, cholesterol, asthma, reflux, thyroid conditions and contraception consultations — where the doctor is satisfied renewal is safe.
- Never renewed via telehealth: drugs of dependence — Schedule 8 medicines and other high-risk medicines. This is a deliberate safety policy, not a technical limitation.
- Sometimes deferred: if your medication is overdue for a review, blood test or examination, the doctor may ask you to complete that first — safe repeat prescribing depends on it.
- The doctor’s decision is final. Booking a consultation is not a guarantee of a prescription — you are paying for a genuine clinical assessment.

The $39 fee is a flat, private consultation fee covering the GP assessment and, where clinically appropriate, a renewed (non-narcotic) prescription or repeat delivered as an eScript. Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to renew a script online?
$39 flat — that covers the telehealth consultation and, where the doctor assesses it clinically appropriate, the renewed prescription as an eScript. There is no separate prescription fee.
Can I renew a script if I’ve run out of repeats?
Yes — that’s the most common reason people book. The doctor will assess whether re-issuing the medicine is safe, and may recommend a review or blood test first if one is due.
Do I need to see my regular GP to renew a script?
No — MyGPOnline is a private service open to everyone in Australia. That said, for long-term conditions regular review with one GP is good medicine, and our doctors will tell you when an in-person check is due.
Can I renew a script for a Schedule 8 or high-risk medicine?
No. Our doctors do not prescribe or renew drugs of dependence via telehealth under any circumstances. Those medicines need in-person care — a Family Doctor clinic can help.
Can I renew someone else’s script?
No — the consultation must be with the person the medicine is for, so the doctor can assess them directly.
